Hamming It Down

One problem that seems to afflict a large percentage of the population is tight hamstrings. There are three hamstring muscles at the back of each thigh, two on the inside and one on the outside.

As these muscles tighten, they become a major cause of muscle imbalance. As the upper body leans forward to perform various everyday tasks, the hamstrings oppose the force to balance the shift in weight. As a result, stress is exerted on vertebrae in the lower back, and pain ensues. To relieve hamstring tightness, lie on your back with your left knee bent. Grab your right calf, and pull your leg toward your chest. Perform this exercise on each leg after exercise. Back problems are also a common complaint. At our facility we can help you figure out where the pain is originating from with a thorough evaluation of your posture, body mechanics, and your lifestyle. Then we will develop a treatment plan that incorporates the right exercises for strengthening and shows you how to avoid common causes of pain. We also provide physical therapy for orthopedic and neurologic conditions, as well as an extensive laser therapy program and innovative treatments for active seniors. P.S. Tight hamstring contribute to swayback by pulling the knees behind the body's vertical centerline (locking the knees)
