Snowboard Risks

The first national study to estimate recreational injuries shows that more people are hurt while snowboarding than during any outdoor activity.

According to the researchers from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, snowboarding accounts for one-quarter of emergency room visits. The most common problems were found to be broken bones and sprains, which accounted for half of all cases. In addition, males are injured at twice the rate of females, either because they are more likely to snowboard or because they are more likely to engage in risky behavior (or both). In any case, physical therapists recommend that snowboarders attain a proper level of fitness as a means of avoiding injury and continuing to enjoy the sport.

Of course, you don't need to engage in activities quite as extreme as snowboarding to fall and get hurt. At our facility, we can help you whether you've gotten hurt "busting a method air off a cornice" or simply slipped in the shower. Our friendly therapists provide a warm and supporting environment as well as the latest techniques and equipment to help you get better. And if you can't make it to our office, we're happy to come to your home to make sure you get the therapy you need, or if you are a Medicare beneficiary.
