Getting On The Treadmill

A recent study shows that stroke survivors who have undergone the usual rehabilitation program can improve their brain function and fitness by working out on a treadmill. In effect, using a treadmill addresses two of stroke survivors' specific challenges.

For one, a treadmill workout helps patients recover the fitness that they have lost. The average stroke patient receives about eight physical therapy sessions over six to twelve weeks. The average age of the study participants was 63, and the average time that they began the treadmill program was 50 months after their strokes. The treadmill work should always be introduced under supervision.
