Becoming Fixated

We are coming to understand that many conditions that were once thought to be inevitable consequences of the aging process are not. Add a stiffening spine to this list, which is commonly the result of loss of mobility in one or more spinal joints.

This restriction of spinal mobility, know as "fixation," affects the majority of people. As adjacent joints compensate, their supportive muscles and ligaments are subjected to severe strain. This, in turn, leads to symptoms of pain, tenderness, and further restricted motion. In addition, as spinal ligaments ultimately stiffen as a result of being strained, the compensatory strain leads to fixation in the compensating joint. Physical therapy may help break this vicious cycle.

In fact, a lot of the "inevitable" results of aging can be mitigated if not entirely forestalled by proper exercise and a little bit of expert know-how. Whether you're suffering from a fixated spine, arthritis, or recovering from a fall, our therapists know how to help you feel limber again. If you're unable to come to us, we're happy to provide your treatment in your own home. Come and visit our state-of-the-art facility and meet our supportive staff at 27136 B Paseo Espada, Suite 1103, San Juan Capistrano. P.S. Fixation of a spinal joint initially may occur with no obvious symptoms.
